Cha Cha Cha Lessons: Where to Start
If you're new to Cha Cha Cha, or you know a few figures and want a clear path, this page is for you. I've put my Cha Cha Cha lessons in a simple learning order: two routines first, each with a basic and an advanced version, then lock technique, a Cuban Break sequence, and finally an advanced demonstration. Work through them in order, and come back to any step whenever you need it.
Step 1 · First routine
Cha Cha Cha Basic and Advanced Routine with Hockey Stick
Two routines to follow along with: a basic one built on good chasse actions with Basic Movements, Hand to Hand, Forward Lock, New York and Spot Turn, then an advanced one that adds Cuban Breaks, Zig Zags and a Hockey Stick ending.

Step 2 · Second routine
Cha Cha Cha Basic and Advanced Routine with Cross Basics
Two more routines with the figure names on screen: a basic one with beginner figures such as the Alemana Turn, Cross Basics and Time Steps, then an advanced one that adds a Lady Spiral, a Split Cuban Break and Guapacha timing.

Step 3 · Technique
How to Dance Cha Cha Cha Forward and Backward Locks
A lock is a chassé that travels forward or back, counted 4-and-1, and I build it in layers: footwork and foot positions first, then hip action, then rib cage motion and shoulder weight.

Step 4 · Combination
Cha Cha Cha Cuban Break with Double Take
A sequence to follow along with at home, starting with a Hip Twist Chassé, adding Cuban Breaks and the Double Take, and finishing with a high cross, a little Zig Zag and a cross chassé action.

Step 5 · Advanced demonstration
Advanced Cha Cha Cha Demonstration
An advanced Cha Cha Cha routine danced to music with my student Maddi, the one she uses for her Gold Star medals and Pro-Am, so you can see how advanced figures flow together.
